Toward Inclusive Schools: Effective Strategies for Supporting LGBT Students

Register Now!

Every day in middle and high schools, LGBT - identified students face a whole host of challenges unimagined by many of their heterosexual peers.  The effects of this manifest themselves in disproportionate rates of suicide, substance abuse, absenteeism, and dropouts.  However, positive interventions by classroom teachers have been shown to have a significant impact on the success of not only LGBT students but their straight peers as well.

Through this course, participating teachers will explore and share strategies for making our school communities more inclusive of LGBT- identified students and their allies.  No matter what subject area you teach, you will acquire strategies to foster an environment in your classroom and school that will better support the intellectual and emotional development of all your students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

This course is available to both graduate and special students (two sections-one for grad at regular tuition and one for special students with special student tuition rates with seg fees waived) the sections would be set up as a "meets with."
