College for Kids II

College For Kids II will build on the success of the middle school years as students transition into high school. This one-week program takes place on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Rising 9th grade students will choose one academic area of study for the week with additional exposure to other academic areas and college preparation. There will be presentations, discussions, and tours for college exposure.

This program will enroll approximately 165 students currently in 8th grade during the transition year from middle school to high school, with 40 contact hours per student.  This one-week, full-day summer program takes place on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus utilizing state-of-the-art facilities and resources, including the new Wisconsin Institutes of Discovery. The precollege experience will include admissions procedures, leadership, campus comfort, and community building. CFK II has been developed as an academic experience in active learning for highly motivated students. This summer program will include rigorous academics, demonstrations, tours, and discussions. All courses are taught by UW professors, academic staff, community professionals, and experts in their field with emphasis on hands-on experiential learning.

This summer 165 rising 9th grade students from school districts and private schools in the Dane County area will be part of College for Kids II. Students are recommended by their school district for the program using a variety of identification methods such as knowledge, interest, motivation and imagination. A student’s interest and motivation are crucial components for the program’s success and thus strengthen the student’s positive experience in the program. Schools will choose students they believe possess all of these qualities. CFK II is not an open enrollment program.
