Before taking that big step across the Kohl Center stage, students mingled with family and friends, enjoyed breakfast and heard from School of Education Dean Julie Underwood. Dean Underwood will be spending Oct. 24 through Nov. 3 in China, where she will be joined by David Rosenthal, the School of Education’s Associate Dean for curriculum and international affairs. The two will be traveling both as a team and individually, making stops at five institutions in an effort to enhance current partnerships and agreements, while starting conversations about new opportunities.

UW-Madison’s School of Education hosted about 250 of its alumni and friends on Saturday, Oct. 12, at its annual Homecoming Tailgate Celebration at Union South. People connected with old friends, checked out the new digs inside Union South and partied with the UW Marching Band prior to heading over to Camp Randall Stadium for an afternoon of fall football fun as the Badgers took on Northwestern.

The athletic department posted a wonderful article about the James Patterson, the best-selling mystery and children’s book author, and Susan Solie Patterson, the former two-time All-American swimmer at UW-Madison who is an alum of the School of Education.

There are two sources of funding. One is via School of Education Seed Funding, which supports initiatives and innovations that contribute to the globalization of the School's course and program offerings, and of the UW-Madison campus. In addition, the Wisconsin Center for Educational Research (WCER) is providing seed funding for the 2013-2014 academic year to promote international and/or comparative educational research by School of Education faculty and staff.

The 90-minute forum, which is free and open to the public, will be held Thursday, Sept., 5, at the Middleton Performing Arts Center, 2100 Bristol St., and begins at 7 p.m. In addition to Underwood, other confirmed participants include Wisconsin State Senators Kathleen Vinehout, D-Alma, and Dale Schultz, R-Richland Center.

Collaborative exchange project designed to help mobilize research knowledge
Researchers do research. Teachers teach. Administrators administer. It’s easy for everyone to work in silos. But everyone could work smarter by taking advantage of what each has to offer. How to make that happen? Some within WCER and the School of Education are working on a new Collaborative Research Exchange.
