Sustainable Partnerships through Meaningful Consultation

Definition

Mutually beneficial interactions in which constituents (internal and external) share knowledge, resources and expertise (Kellogg Commission, 1999; Sandmann, 2006)

Purpose

To understand and identify the needs of constituents

Process

The process of developing strategic partnerships involves the matching of constituent needs with the knowledge, resources and expertise available (Sandmann, 2006)

Products

  • Commitment of leadership to the consultation
  • Focus on needs as identified by partner(s)
  • Ability to bring knowledge, resources and expertise
  • Ability to "flatten the field" so that all sources of expertise are held in high regard and the culture is one of mutual respect
